I can't put into words how amazing this class is, I wish that all would be able to hear the Word spoken of so clearly. It's like puzzle pieces being put together in my mind and heart, and the bigger picture of Jesus in the entire Word of God is being revealed to me.
What really touched my heart was Jesus in relation to Genesis 2:18-24. Here we have Adam, the only creation which God breathed the "breath of life" into. He is there before the fall, in the garden, more beautiful then our minds can imagine. He is in complete unveiled relationship with the living God! That is awesome! God says, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him." ... God brings to Adam each living creature, and Adam names them "cat', "fox", "bird", etc.. "but for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him." He realizes as he is naming these creatures that none of them are his helper, none are comparable to him. He for the first time experiences longing. Longing for communion that will satisfy. He is faced with the reality that there was not one suitable for him as a helper.
But God... "And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man."
How awesome is this! God sees Adams' longing and creates a woman for Adam. It's so beautiful to think about. And the Lord brought her to the man. What was that like I wonder, for the woman to be led by the Lord to this man, the one she was formed out of? Did she know that she came from his very rib? Was there a deep knowing when she saw him, that "ah, there he is"? And when Adam first saw eve, what was that like? And with God fully present, bringing them to one another, presenting them to one another. There was no sin, no shame.
Jesus also had to fall asleep, or in other words go to the cross, to make a way for His bride to be in communion with him. Jesus longs for each of us. His longing was so great He came down from heaven and walked for 33 years on this earth and ultimately gave up his life in order that we may be one with him, and be with him where he is.
That longing we feel, that loneliness in the depths of our hearts is there to drive us to the heart of God. It causes us to realize our frail frame and need and desire to be in communion with something intimately holy, God. The longing causes our love for God to abound, because He is the one who can satisfy. He is the one that loves all of us, and desires us, and longs for us.
